The Associated Press reports, “A person familiar with the decision says Notre Dame will hire Grand Valley State coach Chuck Martin to coach the Irish defensive backs.”
Martin won two Div. II national titles at GVSU and was 74-7 in six years there. Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly also won two national championships at GVSU before coaching Central Michigan and then Cincinnati. GVSU has appeared in six Div. II National Championship games since 2001. It is the premiere program in Div. II football.
The Irish are finally getting what they have always wanted. They are assembling a coaching staff that knows how to win games and more importantly win championship games in college football.
